Need Your Help
I am still working on my deeper post, but in the meantime I need your help. I recieved an iTunes gift card for X-mas and I have $30 to spend. I would like to get some song, artist, or album recomendations from my blog readers. I am open to anything and I will post what I spent my $30 on and why. Give me what you love right now, your all-time favorites, songs you can't get out of your head, or anything else you think needs to find a permenant home on my iPod.

I would suggest:
Norah Jones
Anything by the Gin Blossoms (especially Jealousy, Follow You Down, Found Out About You)
Motown artists (Temptations, Al Green, Jackson 5)
Martin Luther King speeches (Call To Conscience audiobbok)
Counting Crows (Hard Candy is my favorite album)
Johnny Cash
Van Morrison
Pearl Jam
Jason,
Rebecca tells me you're fishing for an i-tune investment. You leave me no option but to reply (you know I can't resist discussing music).
*Dispatch: this is an independent band out of the Boston area. Excellent live album "All Points Bulletin". www.dispatchmusic.com
*Anything you can find by Braddigan (previous member of Dispatch). Christian guy - no cheesy music. http://braddigan.ekdev.com/
*On The Speakers
*Creeper Lagoon
So there are a few ideas. Peace brother!

Here's a few recommendations from the Young Household:
Ben Folds - Still Fighting It
John Hiatt - Drive South, My Old Friend, and many more
Cowboy Junkies - I'm So Open
Ella Fitzgerald - Blue Skies
Eminem - Lose Yourself
The Flatlanders - I Had My Hopes Up High
Jack Johnson - Wasting Time
Jimmy LaFave - Never Is a Moment
Clapton
SRV
Mavis Staples - Have a Little Faith
Nick Drake - Pink Moon
Patty Griffin - Tony, Blue Sky, Rain, Carry Me
Raul Malo - Every Little Thing About You
Nikkfurie de La Caution - The a la menthe
Mark Cohn - Walking In Memphis
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Soul to Squeeze, Under the Bridge
Stereophonics - Maybe Tomorrow
Steve Earle - Jerusalem, Copperhead Road, Trascendental Blues
Richard Buckner - Ariel Ramirez
Black Crowes
Kanye and Jay-Z (I don't know what I'm typing now)
Okay, the list could go on and on, but I'm getting tired.
Actually, now that I see this list, here's another recommendation - just give me the $30 GC and I'll pick some good music for myself. I mean, I did restring your guitar all through college.
B.Young and the gang
"Telephone Line" - Electric Light Orchestra
Brandon's post reminded me, I forgot to mention G-Love. Shame on me! Be sure to pick up "Booty Call"... it's sure to be a classic.

Anything off the SCRUBS playlist on iTunes is worth the money but I specifically suggest "Winter" by Joshua Radin. It's sad and depressing but certainly belongs on anyone's melancholy playllist.
But you definitely need to get Ben Folds' song "There is Always Someone Cooler Than You." A must for YOUR collection. :)
These are GREAT suggestions! Thanks so much. I will be making my purchases this week so check back.
Just in case people are getting ideas for themselves, this list was provided by my brother-in-law Brandon:
Brandon Baker http://spaces.msn.com/members/bebaker/PersonalSpace.aspx :
Ollebelle – Get Back Temptation, Before This Time, Soul of a Man, Two Steps, No More My Lork
Rufus Wainright – Complainte de la Butte, Oh What a World, Vibrate, Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk, Poses, Across the Univerise
Mos Def – Blue Black Jack
Zero7 – Somersault
Nina Simone – Felling Groovy
The Beta Band – Dry Rain
Jon Brion – Theme
Electric Light Orhestra – Mr. Blue Sky
A personal favorite of mine right now is "Word of God Speak" by Mercy Me. It's a pretty powerful song that always makes me feel better when I'm having a bad day.

Hey Jas- You know this excites me greatly- I'll get right on it with a more detailed list but for now you need to get this song= "The Way It's Meant to Be" by the Features. It's a great rock song about the lead singers twin girls. Amanda Leigh Davis
Either album by The Shins, Sleeping at Last's "Ghosts" (Billy Corgan's discovery from Wheaton, IL), James Iha, soundtrack of Garden State, the posthumous release by Elliott Smith, you can't go wrong with Rufus Wainwright, Zwan is a surprisingly uplifting band with Billy Corgan (although they were short-lived). That's all for now. Blessings to you in your ministry.
Oh man, what a can of beans you've opened. It seems like that your other blog readers, much like myself, are into a whole range of genres - which I think is really cool. You know me and how I'm forever on my classic rock kick. Well, when I want to kick it up a notch I get a little harder in my music. Check out 'The Cult' (Billy Morrison is an amazing guitarist), the lyrics and style of 'Afghan Whigs' and their new incarnation 'The Twilight Singers' are awesome. I know you've got the CoC background and so something non-instrumental (other than the Acappella Company/Keith Lancaster and Zoe) might be up your alley. Check out Rockapella's albums 'Primer' and 'Lucky 7 ', both awesome. TMBG...or 'They Might Be Giants' is always a surefire success in any playlist. And if you're feeling a little creepy, go buy Tom Waits "What's He Building in There?" The studio recording is better IMHO than any live recordings I've heard.
Well, I intentionally tried to stay away from areas that I know you have a lot of. Hope you found my suggestions interesting. Let me know if you pick any of these and what you think.
Still in Orlando on business. Be back late Thursday night. Say hi to Allison and my future son-in-law.
Okay... this post is way late, and by now I am sure you have made all of your iTunes purchases, but I wanted to share a website of one of the guys I graduated ACU with. His name is TJ McCloud, and he used to be in a band called StephenSpeaks which toured around the US and actually was really popular in the Philippines. Anyway, if you have time, check him out:
