Coming Soon...
So, is anybody else dreading the new
"Ashley Smith: Purpose Driven Life - Real World Application Edition"
that is surely coming to a Christian Bookstore near you?
I am sure it will be followed up with these new "must have" products:
"The 7 Hour Savior - Evangelism in Times of Crisis"
"WASD" - What Ashley Smith Did bracelets
"He Called Me Sister - Ashley Smith Reconciliation Workbook"
"Purpose Driven Life: Giving Hope - The Movie (rated PG)"
"Pancakes for the Soul"
*Disclaimer*
I do not intend to belittle the truly miraculous interaction that Ashley Smith had with Brian Nichols. I do believe that the spirit of God was fully working in this situation. I do however mean to criticize our (Christians) rush to package and resell these kinds of stories.

That's hilarious. Sad but true, too. Christians aren't the only ones who try to make a buck off these kinds of things. Everyone does. (Case in point...all the made-for-TV movies!)
Did she reference the book or something?
There is nothing wrong with a good book. Like you said it is frustrating to watch the 12-month calender, workbook, video series, and pocket version come out that you know are just attempts to milk a little bit more money out of a hot item.
I think there is some fat guy with his feet up on his desk smoking a Cuban cigar laughing and saying, Those Christians will buy anything I slap a fish or a cross on.
I appreciate your bold honesty...and it's so true...I think the one that Matt and I can never get over are the testa"mints"...
How did you know we just sent out proposals for all those today?!? Thankfully, just kidding... but as a refugee from Christian publishing, I am sure you are right. But nothing will change until Christians stop using their wallets to tell the industry that Christians are shlocky, sentimental dummies with no appreciation for good writing.
Clearly, there are exceptions to this rule, but don't get me started on the reams of paper wasted on dreck that proves it. :)
Enough about Ms. Smith, i just hope Georgia doesn't have the death penalty so that Mr. Nicholas's conversion can be complete and he experience the redemptive love of God and not the feel of a needle, gas or electric shock
