Book Tag
1. How many books have I owned?
Probably somewhere around 250 - 300. Although about 100 of them are YG curriculum books, so I am not sure those count.
2. What was the last book you bought?
I bought "Freakonomics" & "The World is Flat" about two months ago.
3. What was the last book you read
Here's the thing...I am a horrible finisher of books. If I have to think back to the last book I read cover to cover it would have to be Tom Clancy's "The Teeth of the Tiger" about a year an half ago!
4. What are FIVE books that have meant a lot to you?
"The Black Cauldron" - By Llyod Alexander. My mom made me read this book for summer reading in the seventh grade. I hated the idea of burning daylight to read! But I absolutely loved this book once I reached chapter two. I ended up reading all six of the books in the Chronicles of Prydain.
"Amazing Grace" - Jonothan Kozol. Literally changed my life and opened my eyes to a world that existed in reality, not just the movies. This book remains for me my inspiration for what I am doing with my life.
"Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire" - Jim Cymbala. This was "A New Kind of Christian" before there was "A New Kind of Christian."
"You're God is Too Small" - JB Phillips & "Man's Search for Meaning" - Viktor Frankl. Two profound little books.
"The Miss-measure of Man" - Stephen Gould & "Before it's too Late" - Stanton Samenow. These two books were part of my reading for my Senior Seminar in college. These were mind exploding books for me that informed my perspective of prejudice, in-justice, and compassion.
Honorable Mentions:
"Without Remorse" - Tom Clancey. Proved I could read a book over 500 pages and set me on a course to read five other Clancey novels (or should I say books).
"Screwtape Letters" - C.S. Lewis. Profound, creative, humbling, and cuts to the bone!
"The World is Flat" - Thomas Friedman. Prophetic in a secular way.
What I should read:
"Essential English Grammar" - Phillip Gucker.
Tag You're It:
Brandon B. (Is C++ in the top five?)
Joe H. (Is this possible for you? The Tim LaHaye books count as one)
Sinatra Has A Cold
Kate E.
Allison I. (Incentive to blog?)
Coach Bundy (Coaches read right?)
On a side note. I have about twenty kids from my youth group who are going down to D.C. for the Worship in the Spirit of Justice service taking place in front of the White House. I am so proud to be a part of the Manhattan Church for so many reasons. Specifically in this case the fact that there are about 35 people who are driving down to D.C. for this service impresses and inspires me. Along with Christ's Church for Brooklyn our group is going to stand together with other Christians in a display of unity and justice. I hope that this makes an impact on my teens and widens their experience in a way that inspires them to lead a more active Christian witness in their lives. Keep us in prayer.

Thanks for not tagging me! Me dont read so good.
I too was hooked on the Chronicles of Prydain growing up. Great, imaginative stuff. And the Disney movie just screwed the whole thing up big-time. Very disappointing.
I started reading "The Mismeasure of Man" a few months back, but ended up skimming it because it was so dry and... well, textbook-ey. Interesting, though.
If my countless LaHaye books only count is one then I'm out. Forget it.
"as" not "is", sorry
I think TIm LaHaye actually counts as -1.
Why would anyone tag a coach for a book read blog? Instead, how about "great one-liners"!!
