Behind the Wheel
I loved that car! My 1986 Honda Prelude was the car I got in high school and I drove it until I moved off to NYC with Allison in 1999. It didn't have power windows or A/C but it had a great sound system and was fast! That car made the trip from Seattle to Abilene about six times and several trips to Arkansas. It served as the "scream sing" arena for me and my sister as we drove home from youth group every Sunday, it served as the imaginary stadium that my brothers and I dreamed we were playing in right along side Pearl Jam and Soundgarden. It was also the place of numerous break-ups and falling in "love", it was a huge part of my high school and college experience. Allison always told me that she thought I looked so cool in that car (even though we were dying from the heat and winblown when we took it on dates but that didn't matter).
Last Thursday my sister loaned me two CD's by The Smiths, "Louder Than Bombs" and "Singles". It had been a really long time since I had listened to them and it brought back a flood of memories when I did. The memories all centered around blasting my music as I drove around in that car.
I started thinking about all of the music I used to listen to back in the day, and I realized that I no longer have a lot of the CD's that I loved. Through getting lost, stolen, used by my siblings, or just misplaced these CD's haven't managed to make it with me to 2005. I don't have any digital copies since these albums were out before I even had an e-mail account.
So I am faced with either repurchasing these albums or just letting them stay in my past. Just in case you don't recognize the album art work here they are going from left to right.

Just because I'm a curoius fellow, I'm wondering if you can explain the story behind this specific picture of you and your car?
Or maybe one of your friends - Bundy! - can help us out a bit?
Yeah, I was wondering the same thing, but figured I couldn't make fun of his image choice two posts in a row...
By the way, I was so into Genesis and Pearl Jam back in the day too.
Joe...I am glad you asked. As I recall I was out one night with a girl (who was a friend), I think her last name was Heintz if i remember correctly...
Ok, Ok I am kidding! Just playing on Joe's feelings of insecurity and intimidation that he had of me during Dr. Willis Bible class in 1996. That's when me and my "Interge-Group Partner" (who happened to eventually be his wife Laura Heintz) would have friendly chats about life, God, friends, etc...and he sat there silent hoping she would notice him. Which she eventually did in the library I believe copying some book about theology.
ANYWAY...If you click on the picture you can see the raw photo of my car bottomed out on an embankment at Fort Phantom Lake in Abilene, TX. I had gone there with a friend who was a girl and I didn't see that the road had a large drop off. So with the car stuck my friend and I walked back to ACU (3 miles) and my good friend Byron Bundy, who took the picture, came to pull me out with "Old Red" (his Toyota pick-up).
So that's the story. Pretty smooth huh!
My favorite time in that car was at the Woodinville Burger King. All five of us were in the car and the windows fogged up...I wrote "MOM" on all the windows. It was a spiritual experience for me!
I still have records from when I was in Junior High...1964!

There are just too many things to say about "back in the day". Most of my information would be damaging to current relationships that the involved parties are apart of. That being said, Jason, BYoung, Bedard, Gern, Pile and the rest of you. I have more on you than you care to know about. Don't cross me.
