Revolution

I had a fantastic Columbus Day weekend! For the last two years Columbus Day weekend has served as the weekend that the Revolution: A Turning Point Youth Event has taken place. It's an event that's sponsored by MCOC, Stamford COC, and Camp Shiloh. This year we had 127 people attend (a 22% increase over last year) from churches as far away as Fairfax, VA and New Haven, CT. Jeremy Shipp served as our Pastor and speaker for the weekend and he did an amazing job at presenting the Gospel.

Totally weird thing happened though. He talked about the time he went skydiving two days before he got married with his good friend Jonathan. He showed the video of his jump and my sister started freaking out. It turns out that his good friend who took him tandem parachuting was married to our cousin Jo Lynn! I say was, because about three weeks after that jump Jonathan and four of his jumping buddies perished in a plane crash. They were at a competition and the plane went down in full view of everyone, including the wives of the men who were jumping. Jeremy talked about Jonathan and what an impact his life and death had made on him. It was another reminder of how small the world is.

We had three baptisms (two were Shiloh teens - Perry & Donovan - and one was from MCOC) and we will have another one this Sunday. The weather was awful, but everyone's attitudes were great. Special thanks go to my wife for wrangling Levi all weekend and still finding time to pray and be with teens. My brother, Ian for flying out from Los Angeles to help lead worship, and for my sister who led worship, chaperoned teens, and was game for anything the weekend threw at her (which is quite a sacrifice for her read why). Also huge thanks to Chrissie for helping me keep my head during all the planning and preparing, I would seriously be lost without her help. And to the Lori B. who is a great partner in events like this and in ministry. It was a great weekend.
