Top Five - Singers
Each Friday I hope to post a "Top Five" list of something. For the first top five post, we visit a long debated topic between me and my brothers...
My brothers are awesome! All three of us love music and we like the same music (for the most part). Ian and Matt are great musicians in their own right. They are both in a band called "Black Molly" and are currently recording a new album in Los Angeles, CA. My brothers are the best. They are two of the most talented, compassionate, humble, and fun people I know. I love them tremendously, and this first top five is in their honor.
Below are the top five singers that I would most like to emulate if I was a music star.
2. Chris Robinson - Lead singer for The Black Crowes. I saw them in concert thanks to my brother Matt. Robinson has one of the greatest pure rock-n-roll voices in the HISTORY of rock-n-roll. It's bluesy, soulful, rich, and has an authentic sound that can't be faked.
3. Eddie Vedder - Lead singer for Pearl Jam. I saw them in concert during the Vitology tour. They opened with "Blood" and Vedder didn't let up for the entire 3 hour set. I have one caveat for this selection. I think his voice was at it's best from the album Ten through Vitology, after that he voice doesn't do much for me.
4. Sara McLachlan - Her vocal range, and lyrical abilities are astounding. She can create a sound that is both hauntingly ethereal and powerfully resonating. Her vocal instincts and ability to improvise put her on par with the greatest female vocalists of the last twenty years.
5. George Michael - From the album Make it Big with WHAM! to his solo effort "Listen Without Prejudice" George Michael has some of the most memorable and expertly performed songs of any pop artist. His voice is so clear and clean. His range is probably the best of the group. His recording of "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" is better than the original by Roberta Flack...and that's saying something.
So that's my list. When you envision yourself stepping up to a microphone in front of 40,000 screaming fans, which voices would you want to come out of your mouth?

you're gonna laugh at this, but I'd almost have to put christina aguilera up there. sure, shes a slut, and she sings poppy music...but dadgum shes got a voice on her.
Who's Bono?
My favorite is Jason Isbell singing Steamroller.
Mom
I would have Paula Cole on my list - she can do so many cool and amazing things with her voice. I also love Peter Gabriel. I completely agree with your choice of George Michael - Listen Without Prejudice is one of my favorite albums - his voice is so versatile. And no, I would not pick any of the Beatles to be on my list. As much as I love their music, I don't think of them as particularly great singers.
Although I don't think she'll be singing for that much longer because she's SO screwing up her voice with the way she sings, I still love Kelly Clarkson. Her latest album is awesome. My boys and I rock out to it. Love it. Love her.Just wish she'd get a little training or something so she'd be around a little longer.
Well IMHO George Michael should be at the top, numero uno..you say yourself he has the best range of the group. He's a bit of a recluse but he knows how to write and sing some of pops finest moments.
PS: I think the rest of U2 make Bono sound average vocally and they're doing him a favour there, he can't sing to save his life.
