Woodinville High School Senior Class Picture 1993
Let's have it. I want your high school playlist. Say sophomore, junior, and senior year. What CD was skipping in your sorry car stereo as you bolted to the furthest Taco Bell possible for your 25 minute off campus lunch. Which song brought you together with that special someone, or what song got you through that terrible heart ache. Here is my definative High School playlist:
1. Alive - Pearl JamThis by no means is an exhaustive list, but at some point I would have listened to at least one of these songs every-time I was in my car. You don't have to give 13 songs, but give a few of your personal "Hits."
2. Pictures of You - The Cure
3. Fire and Rain - James Taylor
4. Black - Pearl Jam
5. Enjoy the Silence - Depeche Mode
6. Hunger Strike - Temple of the Dog
7. All I Want is You - U2
8. Desire - U2
9. Carolina on My Mind - James Taylor
10. Lovesong - The Cure
11. Last Night I Dreamt Somebody Loved Me - The Smith's
12. Kathy's Song - Simon and Garfunkel
13. Never Let Me Down Again - Depeche Mode
PS: Yes I am wearing white shorts, shirt tucked in, and Birkenstocks with white tube socks. No I did not get beat up everyday, I even had a girlfriend. (click on picture to enlarge)

hey at least i wasn't the only one looking like a dweeb in my socks and sandles.
I have recently come to grips with my nerd status (I too wore socks with my faux Birkenstocks). But I was a somewhat hip nerd. Here's my playlist, some of which I coincidentally downloaded last night.
*The Sweater Song--Weezer
*Green Day--Welcome to Paradise
*The Beatles--She's Leaving Home
*I Alone--Live
*DMB--Crash
My college playlist was much more extensive. I blame this on the fact that my car was so crappy that I only got AM radio and spent my time listening to the showtunes station.
Oh jeez. that photo of you will keep me going another few years. Thanks.
My high school mix tapes were pretty much full of classic rock. Here are some of the bands I visited often...
Chicago // Boston // Eagles // The Police // Journey // Simon & Garfunkel // Billy Joel // Genesis // Kansas // AC/DC // Beatles // U2 // Meatloaf
are you wearing white shorts?
are you wearing white socks to match your white shorts?
did you role your white shorts up?
is that a gold chain around your neck?
what is the guy to your right doing?
My H.S. car was a '69 VW Squarback. 4 speed on the floor, with mag wheels. There was no radio in the car. My surfboard was hanging out the back. I listened to country music. "If I die before I wake.....feed Jake."
No the pants aren't rolled up. I was told that short shorts made me look taller. In retrospect, I should have had shorter friends (the two guys behind me were my best friends, each over 6' 2"). The chain is actually a wood bead necklace, come on man it was Seattle we didn't wear gold...we're earthy!
Kenny let's show your HS pics, now those are classic!
Alisa, "April Come She Will" was one of the first songs I learned to play on the guitar (right after "Every Rose Has It's Thorns"). Great list.
The top songs on my Ipod, er...Victrola, were uh, I can't remember. Oh, yeh, anything from Joan Baez or the Beach Boys or Motown.
this post inspired me. i've been moving, so i found my old tape mixes. this one is from high school:
desperado - eagles
if we never meet again - tommy conwell and the young rumblers
stand by me - ben e. king
can't fight this feeling - reo speedwagon
i want to know what love is - foreigner
plus a bunch of stuff from amy grant and michael w. smith
but honestly in high school i mostly listened to the cure and u2. i think i abandoned tape mixes when i got disintegration.
what's really crazy is i also still have this other mix, from junior high:
when i'm with you - sheriff
make me lose control - eric carmen
i'm lost in you - rod stewart
if we never meet again - (see above)
the flame - cheap trick
you were always in my mind - pet shop boys
electric blue - icehouse
missing you - john waite
i'll be there - escape club
true colors - cyndi lauper
