What to Read?
So I have a problem. I like to read and I find learning very interesting. However, I am a magazine reader instead of a book reader. I subscribe to Atlantic Monthly, WIRED, New York Magazine, YouthWorker Journal, and The New York Times Magazine. On top of that I am somewhat of a news junky. I think I am the only person I know my age that still watches the Nightly News (NBC but may make the switch to CBS for Katie) and the Daily Show. On top of this I subscribe to these podcasts: Filmspotting, KCRW's Left Right and Center, Slate Podcast, Slate Explainer Podcast, and KTCK Dallas Sports Radio.
But on my "just purchased" bookshelf there are easily fifteen books that I really want to read, but haven't yet. Some of the titles are:
Soul Searching, Breaking Through to Teens - Christian SmithI guess I feel so overwhelmed and behind in the book category that I just don't know where to start.
Walk On The Spiritual Journey of U2 - Steve Stockman
Family First - Dr. Phil McGraw
Every (young man's, young woman's, woman's and man's) Battle - Various
What it Takes to Pull Me Through - David L. Marcus
Queen Bees and Wannabes - Rosalind Wiseman
Odd Girl OUt - Rachel Simmons
What's up With Boys - Crystal Kirgiss
Roaring Lambs - Briner
Mystery of Marriage - Mike Mason
Our Endangered Values - Jimmy Carter
The Shame of the Nation: The Restoration of Apartheid Schooling in America - Jonothan Kozol

I have a list of approx 72 books that I want to read, but I suppose some of the ones you've suggested will top me out at 80.
i don't know if it would work for you (with an ipod), but i've been getting books on cd at the library. i spend a lot more time in my car than i do sitting at home, so it works perfect for me. i wish i'd discovered it earlier.
I want to borrow the Jimmy Carter book. I'll let you keep Pano the Train AND The Book of Three... Just sit down with a quart of Blue Bell and tell the fam to leave you alone for a few hours. It's hard to read a book with your hectic life style.
Oh yea. I love Katie...uh I mean Ms. Couric. The truth is Brian Williams is just plain awful. He rambles on and on and I just can't stand it.
I really miss Tom Brokaw. He was the best, and with Brian being so annoying I am open to trying anything.
The Jimmy book is really good. It's simple, clear, and direct. It's a quick read and has a lot of things that make you stop and think. Kozol's book is the one that's going to be knock you off your feet good.
I have recently listened to "Real Sex" by Lauren Winner via my iPod and it was great. The problem is I really like music and podcasts as well. But Audio Books are a good way to go too.
Natalie and I read the Mason book, Mystery of Marriage, during our engagement. Great book. One of the best theological explorations of the sacrament that I have read. It is a pretty easy read too, but one that could also make you stop and just think on a line or paragraph for a while. It allows for several different types of reads, which I think is a great thing.
