Back At Ya

Wow, it's been a while since I blogged. Sorry I left such a pessimistic post up for the last two weeks. Truth is I have been so busy and didn't have much to say.

However in true ADHD form lets talk about a few things that have been bouncing around my head the last few weeks.

The Envelopes:
Now that Allison is going full-time to graduate school, we have to dramatically alter our spending habits. So we are going to an all-encompasing envelope system (a la Dave Ramsey style). This is the first month that we start it, and I am kind of nervous about it. Anyone else do this...successfully?

Good Music:
Just sort of discovered the band JET. They are the Australian equivalent to The Black Crowes. Any good music out there I should be rocking? What about "Bright Eyes", how is he (or they).

Sex On The Brain:
Not what you are thinking. I am starting a series on Sex and Dating for the youth group at church. I look forward to doing this topic because it gives me pause to think and re-examine my own attitudes and perspectives on sexuality. I am really amazed at how much my attitudes can be influenced and shaped by what I see, read, or hear. Personally I know that my own perspectives can get a little out of whack sometimes. Can you imagine what it's like to be a teenager! It's scary how much perversion and distortion the teens (we all) have access to. However it also creates a situation where the truth about sex and sexuality is needed even more, and they crave that truth on a very fundamental level. I have entitled my series "Taking Sexy Back" and I have a pretty funny marketing strategy to get the kids ready to talk.

Thanks for checking in and being patient. For that I reward you with this little Diddy!

Jason - the envelope system is a great way to manage a budget. My parents used it for years. It was literally cash in envelopes in my dad's desk. Now my parents, along with my sister and I each use a modified envelope system using categories in Quicken. The paycheck goes in a "master" envelope and is immediately separated out into the "spending" envelopes. Works great. Of course, like any budgeting system, it requires that you be committed to following it. Good luck!!

If this photo's purpose is to encourage abstinence, mission accomplished.

Great to chat with you yesterday Obie.
As a resource for your class, try Lauren Winner's book Real Sex. I heard her speak at Zoe this year, she's got some great insights.
Cheers,
Murray

I think the wrong brother has been modeling - you missed your true calling.

Levi is too cool!

We are doing the envelope system by the week with our groceries and our LIMITED expendable income. Just started a few weeks ago...I'll have to get back to you and how effectively it's working!
