Before and After
It's been about a year since I got my diagnosis as a celiac. A lot has changed in my eating habits and there are definatly things that I miss. Like not eating Oreo's, sandwiches, pizza, pasta, donuts, cake, pie, etc. I have cheated a little here and there (I had two pices of Pumpkin pie, and I ate the crust), but for the most part it feels so good to feel good that I don't really think about what I am missing all that much. As you can see here things are much better than what they were a year ago.

My conference in Ohio was great, and one seminar stood out as being just amazing. The teacher (sage is more apt a description) was Tony Campolo. He is well known for starting some of his speeches to church people this way:
"I have three things I'd like to say today. First, while you were sleeping last night, 30,000 kids died of starvation or diseases related to malnutrition. Second, most of you don't give a shit. What's worse is that you're more upset with the fact that I said shit than the fact that 30,000 kids died last night."To say that he is passionate about social justice would be an understatement. He taught a seminar entitled Red Letter Christians and the place was packed with about 500 people. It was absolutely fantastic, and if you are interested in thinking about how faith and politics can intersect you can listen and download the mp3 here.
Just In: Kudos to the President Elect of the Christian Coalition for resigning (story here). Looks like he is more interested in being a Red Letter Christian instead of just a Republichristian. Shout out to Theoblogia for the link.

Finally, I am in the Holiday music purchasing mood. I think I am going to get Wintersong by Sarah McLachlan and James Taylor at Christmas. Last year I got the Vince Guaraldi Trio "A Charlie Brown Christmas" last year. Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the shout out. :) I'm glad that you're feeling so much better now. As for the holiday music, I would suggest Sufjan Stevens' Songs for Christmas. It's a unique and very cool Christmas album. I'm glad that you had an opportunity to listen to Campolo; he's incredible. Hope all is well in New York. I always wish I could move to NYC between Thanksgiving and New Years. Hope you and your family are doing well. shalom.
my current fav christmas song is "last christmas" by jimmy eat world.
Jonathan recently introduced me to the Sufjan Stevens Christmas Album, Songs for Christmas. One of his songs (not a Christmas one) was on the Little Miss Sunshine soundtrack. Must say I was pleasantly surprised. We are also listening to the Johnny Cash Chrismas album as well.
Barenaked Ladies and Sarah McLachlan do an incredible version of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen/We Three Kings" on the Barenaked for the Holidays album.
