I Apologize
I really regrett supporting the idea of going to war in Iraq. I feel ashamed about contributing to the fervor of going to war in early 2003 and where that's led our country and especially what it's done to our service men and women and their families. I am sorry.

Now if we can get you to apologize for your 2004 vote. :)
Did you see the cover of the new Newsweek? Sad. So very sad.
Ah, so it's YOUR fault!
As an individual who was part of a majority who supported going to war, I should take some responsibility for it. If I had been against going to war it wouldn't have had an impact one bit, but that doesn't really let me off the hook does it?
First, I am bothered by the idea that we are comfortable judging war in the present, looking only at the immediate results. I am not in favor of war, but I am hopeful of the long range effects of this current war just as I am aware and appreciative of the effects of previous wars. Second, I am VERY GRATEFUL for the service men and women who serve their country and do so primarily without condemnation.
History may judge this war as beneficial sometime in the future. But it is absolutely evident that the reasons I supported going to war (finding WMD, establishing a pluralistic democracy) have not become a reality or look to become one anytime soon.
I am incredibly grateful to our service men and women as well. And I believe the ideals and protection of America is worthy of sacrifice. However I would have never supported sending those men and women to referee a civil war between tribes, ethnic groups, foreign fighters, and religious groups. The US officials and even the defense department overseeing this war hold a great responsibility for creating conditions on the ground that fostered the kind of war we find ourselves in.
I am comfortable with history putting this war in it's proper perspective. However what we all have to come to grips with is the fact that we are in midst of creating that history in this very moment. Which should motivate us to take hard and critical looks at our actions in the recent past as well as in the present.
