Personal Gun Control
Re-reading my recent post the thought occurred to me that I do infact have a pretty significant power when it comes to controlling guns. My power lies in the way Allison and I raise our children. Levi does not play with toy guns now, and as much as it is in our power he won't in the future. Additionally will we not purchase a toy for him that simulates the look or action of a real gun in anyway. Guns are not toys and while others are more permissive with their children in this regard we have made it clear to him that it is not acceptable in our house for him to simulate shooting a gun at things or people, real or imagined. Has he simulated playing with a gun and shooting people, yes. He learned it from some of the older kids at church. But we still corrected that behavior and he follows our rules and expectations.
Levi is all boy, and he likes to imagine he is holding swords, fire houses, or that he can fly. But when it comes to playing with guns, he is being taught that guns are not cute or fun little toys for boys to play with. Because, as we call all see guns are anything but toys.
