VA Tech Shooting & NY-Times
The New York Times has done an amazing job at creating a very intimate and interactive web-page of the victims from the VA Tech shooting. If they gave pulitzers for this kind of design and reporting integration, they would win it hands down.
What is striking to me is that for each person killed in this shooting the Times has a write up about them and includes links to their Facebook, MySpace, or personal web pages.
It's absolutely incredible to be able to reach past the headlines and into the lives of these people who were alive just a few days ago. The messages that say "Call us we are worried about you." Or, "Dude, call your parents they want to hear from you." are heartbreaking. I encourage everyone to spend some time with these victims, visit their MySpace pages and take part in witnessing who they were through their eyes instead of just through the headlines.
I will help get you started. Here is the MySpace page for Lauren Ashley McCain she seemed like a beautiful young woman and is a sister in Christ.
Here is the link to all the victims on the NY-Times website. Registration NOT required. Link
