I'm Back...Sort of
Hey There:
Sorry it's been really dry around the J-Wild blog the last month. There has been so much going on that blogging had to take a back seat. And it probably will again once our son is born. He is scheduled to appear any day now which adds just the slightest bit of tension to the day.
We were in the ER last night for six hours with Levi while they were running some blood tests and getting a blood culture. He is totally fine, he does have a slight case of walking pneumonia which is actually good to know because we (read us and the doctors) didn't know why he was spiking fever with no other symptoms. I want to stress that he is totally fine and walked out of the ER with about ten stickers and three superhero tattoos.
Two weeks ago my sister and I took a group of teens from MCOC to Honduras. It was such an awesome experience and the kids did a great job. We worked for several days painting a school and helping to get it ready for the coming semester. It was truly humbling to see the difference in standards of living that I am accustomed to and the standards that the people in Travesia lived with.
As you can imagine the work in Honduras compelled me to think in profound ways about health care, wealth, poverty, education, and all sorts of things. Those observations will come in due time, but first I want to post this one observation and question.
Observation One:
For a teenager the "cuddle compulsion" is stronger than the "comfort compulsion." We road around in an unairconditioned bus for hours at a time in 100 degree heat with 90% humidity and still they cuddled. I realize that adolescents is as hormonally charged as you can get, but I was amazed.
Question:
You know the song "Our God He Is Alive," why is it that when the song has been sung through once that the chorus is sung one more time but at half tempo? Surly that's not how it was written? To me it feels like something that happened one time at a devo somewhere and then was picked up bvy others in an effort to recreate the moment other places. Now the song can't be sung without the "Chorus again and slower for emphasis sake" part added. I would like to go on record as saying I hate it. When it slows down I can't help but hear a jazzy...bumm chi chi bumm chi chi in my mind.
PS: Random right? There was a group from ACU down in Honduras and every time the song was sung the bumm chi chi bumm part was included.

this is a mystery. i do agree the slow reprise is a little heebie but i will now have it stuck in my head for the rest of the day!
I had never heard of that "Our God He is Alive" going to half-speed when they reprise the chorus thing until we moved to Tennessee. When they did it, I was flabbergasted. For lack of a better description, it sounded like a cheap worship leader trick to make people really FEEL the song, ya know?
Not a fan.
Preach it brother Root!
