Zoe Keating

No matter how you are feeling right now elated, stunned, inspired, or depressed the music of Zoe Keating will help regain your equilibrium. Again thanks to the Radio Lab podcast Zoe's music was made known to me while I was riding my bike to work two days ago. She is a cellist who was classically trained but creates music that is cinematic and has more in common with rock than Bach.

She incorporates various loops and repeaters to create lush sounds and layers that grow increasingly beautiful as her pieces go on. Everything you hear is created by her and the range of sound coming from her cello is incredible. Below are some links where you can hear her music for free.

Radio Lab Podcast - Quantum Cello
Pop Tech - A live performance at the Pop-Tech conference 2007
YouTube - performance of Tetrishead

Get ready for Sarah "Barracuda" Palin. After reading some tidbits about her life (her husband is a grizzled roughneck, she led her high school basketball team to a state championship, she hunts and fishes, etc.) I like to think of her in the wild taking on a grizzly bear with nothing but her bare hands and her wits.

I'm stunned, I can't believe the complete stupidity of this choice. It illustrates how the Republican party believes the religious right is stupid enough to vote for anyone, as long as he/she has "family values." As for family values, how about staying home to take care of that little baby? The problem is, I know many fundamental Christians who will love this choice because she's a mom of little kids and is against abortion.

Jas, if I were you I would try to temper the sexist comments on your blog. You have a reputation to uphold.
