Under Pressure

That 4 X 100m relay was freaking awesome last night. Allison and I were going absolutely nuts as Jason Lezak touched the wall for gold. The 32 year old anchor leg swimmer turned in arguably one of the greatest swimming performances ever under the most unimaginable pressure.

The French were talking smack. Jason entered the pool behind one of the world's fastest 100m swimmers. Michael Phelps needed him to have the split of his life in order for Michael to continue his history making attempt as eight gold medals. And he was swimming on the worlds biggest stage. Any normal person, even a most world class athlete would just be crushed under that kind of pressure.

Stefan Fatsis the author of the book "A Few Seconds of Panic" tried to get a taste of what kind of pressure pro-athletes face as they attempt to make the incredibly difficult seem routine. Check out what happens when he was put under just the slightest bit of pressure to make a field goal in the NFL.
