Our Cape Cod Vacation

On the boat waiting to go to South Beach Island in Chatham, MA

We got back on Saturday from an amazing trip to Cape Cod. We vacationed with the Henegar's and rented a house in Brewster, MA on the "Mid-Cape." The house as a lot of fun and the owners had created a great space for families. The hightlight of the house had to be the outdoor shower which everyone used all week long, day or night. The boys had so much fun playing together on the beaches, running around the house, and playing in the backyard (a real novelty for Levi). Since we were staying on the bay side of the Cape the beaches were drastically affected by the tides.

Allison did a great job of keeping everyone updated on when high tide and low tide were happening. This was important since low tide meant that the water receded almost a mile out into the bay, leaving huge tidal pools filled with hermit crabs, snails, sand dollars, Zebra fish, and all other sorts of aquatic creatures. The kids had a blast running on the beaches and wading in these pools. The tide variation was incredibly dramatic and created some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen. We also rode bikes on the Cape Cod Rail Trail (which is quite extensive) and stopped by "Seymour Pond" near the trail for a fun afternoon swim and feeding of the ducks.

Of course we also ate really great food, had a lot of ice-cream, and stayed up way too late talking and laughing considering we had three kids getting up around 6:45 a.m. every morning, but you know how it goes, you can't kill the rooster. Allison and I really hope that we will be able to return to the Cape every summer for our family vacation. We feel like it's the perfect place to go and hope that it becomes our family spot for years to come.
