The Power of Simplicity...

Love this video. I hope someday to have the same sort of creative inspiration that gave birth to this video in some of the videos I get to do. In the meantime I will marvel and the power and simplicity of this work.

Thursday Throw Down

Economic Perspective:
2,000 (years) x 365 = 730,000 (days)
$900,000,000,000 / 730,000 = $1,232,876.71 per day since Jesus was born (not adjusted for inflation).

Best web-phenomenon term:
FaceBook Fits - coined by Elizabeth in reference to certain types of status updates.

Compelling solution to fiscal crisis:
Lawerence Lindsey on The Daily Show

Best Political Cartoon of the Week:
Party of Fiscal Responsibility

L O S T Prediction:
Miles is the son of Dr. Edgar Hallowax the guy from the Dharma Initiative instructional films.

Weekend Plans:
Allison has class on Saturday so I might take the boys to see the Red Bull Snowscraper competition on the Lower Eastside. Should be TOTALLY RADICAL DUDE!

Don't forget to laugh too...

Some people have said that the entertainers who have made their comedic living off of the Bush Presidency are going to have a hard time with the new Obama administration. I don't think this will be so, entertainers are wired to entertain regardless of who is in the White House and the good ones will thrive in this environment just like they did during the Bush years.

For instance, The Daily Show was able to have find humor and irony on the very day of Obama's inauguration. Colbert of course followed up with a brilliant show as well. Hopefully SNL, The Daily Show, and The Colbert Report will help me laugh at President Obama for the next eight years.

400th Post!

I'm back!

After being fairly consumed with this past election and frequently using this blog as a vehicle for expressing my thoughts, I decided to take a step back for a little bit. I enjoy politics and discussing current events and I view this blog as a way of engaging in the topics and stories I find interesting. But in stepping back for a bit I took some time to think about the usefulness and "contribution" blogging in this manner actually makes. It's not that I hope to achieve any sort of blog notoriety via my "jackassian" punditry or even looking to garner more comments for that matter. Rather I questioned whether adding my two-cents to topics that are already hyper analyzed and commented on is beneficial for me or society in general.

With all this reflecting I have come to the conclusion that thinking about myself or this blog in such a way might just be taking things a bit too seriously. So it's time to start blogging and stopping reflecting.

However I do have a little video whose subject matter I do take very seriously.

I find teaching your children to love Rock and Roll is absolutely critical if you wish to be considered a good parent. I have learned from Radio Lab that studying right before you go to bed aids in memory recall and neurological imprinting. So I figured 30 minutes before bed is the perfect time to get out the guitar and turn up the music (especially while Allison is in class).

Ah, it's tough being a good parent!

Jesus Is A Friend of Mine

Sorry it's been a while since I blogged. I have some more posts in the works, but in the meantime I will give you this little ditty. And if you don't watch the whole thing you are going to miss out on amazing lyrics, the absolute worst guitar solo sound, and classic 80's hair. There is no doubt that after you watch this you will hate me for posting this because you WILL NOT be able to get this song out of your head.
ENJOY!

PS: I showed this at Revolution this past weekend, and the kids were dumbfounded by it. They thought it was cool...kinda of.

Interconnectedness...

This video blew my mind! It's a simulation of all the commercial flights around the world in a twenty-four hour period.

Relatively speaking, there are still a lot of logistics to getting multi-ton flying tubes full of people all around the world. Air travel has to be the least efficient method of interconnectedness in the world, yet it still moves millions and millions of people around the globe everyday.

Many more things are not inhibited by weather, flight patterns, mechanical failures, and expense. The flow of money, services, ideologies, faith, ideas that foster hate, love, compassion, injustice, peace, and war move with unprecedented ease around the world.

America's future and place in the world depends on our leaders utilizing the strengths and combating the weaknesses of our country in the face of this global reality. That's just one of the reasons why I support Obama for President, because I believe he possesses the best set of skills, policies, and life experience to position America to lead the rest of the world in this new era of global connectedness and interdependence.

Levi's Four

Levi,
We can't believe you are four years old (6/12). Your mother and I love you beyond words or comprehension. You bring so much light into the world, I know that God has tremendous plans for you. And no matter how far you go or what you accomplish you will always be our growly bear.

A Day for Firsts

This is the honest truth. As you will see in the video Levi has gotten pretty good at riding his bike in a very short period of time. The clip you see of him riding the bike was 20 minutes after we first took off the training wheels. I had to call Allison to come meet us outside because I didn't have the camera. I really thought he would be too young. He clearly isn't, although don't worry he isn't allowed to ride his bike without me or Allison running right beside him.

Wait till you see Zeke work so hard to try and walk it's pretty funny (and adorable if I do say so myself).

Zeke Sings

My day off was today which means Zeke and I get to hang out together until the afternoon. Since Zeke can't eat nachos yet (Levi and I always have nachos on my day off) we did the next best thing. We made a video.....enjoy.

Guitar Hero

My teens love Guitar Hero and most of them are awesome at it. I of course am terrible at it, but hey I can play the guitar in REAL LIFE! A fact that I often remind them of. And thanks to this clip I now understand how I look to them.
